How Bio Foods Helps Planet

It is said that 70% of land and water pollution in the United States alone can be attributed to the conventional agriculture that we know of today. Producing crops for food consumption has ever since inflicted harm on the ecological balance of the planet. Agricultural wastes such as chemical fertilizers and animal waste do not only pollute soil but also the rivers and streams.
Bio-foods are food products planted by organic farmers. Research on bio-food production all boils down to the reduction of agricultural impact on the environment. The growing awareness on global warming and climate change resulted to the promotion of green products in the market. The green marketing movement did not spare the food industry in their campaign, as awareness on bio-foods and organic food products grows day by day. Truly, the demand of consumers is a powerful force in this global endeavor to sustain the environment and we should not be left behind on this. But first, we have to know how exactly does purchasing bio-foods instead of conventional food products become beneficial to earth.
We have already mentioned the effects of agriculture on ecological degradation. Conventional farming uses pesticides and synthetic fertilizer that are continuously polluting both the soil and the waste stream. Bio-food farmers rely on natural methods of ensuring a hefty yield and continuous research is being done to do this in a sustainable manner.
Aside from that, bio-food farming preserves biodiversity as different varieties of seeds are being collected and grown. Crop rotation is also practiced by bio-food farmers and by doing this, wetlands, fence rows and other natural areas are retained as well.
To top it all, farming bio-foods is more energy efficient for the same reason that it is planted naturally without the use of any manufactured synthetic chemicals and pesticides that are usually made of petroleum.
